Climate positive until 2035

Kungsleden sees the issues around climate and the environment as business-critical. To respond to the biggest challenge of our time, we not only want to reduce our environmental impact but actively counteract climate change by removing more emissions than our business and our value chain give rise to.

We therefore plan to become the world's first climate-positive real estate company. We will reach this by 2035. Our sub-goals are to be climate-positive in the administration by 2025, and for the entire value chain by 2035. We follow the Science based targets principle in accordance with the maximum 1.5 degree goal of halving our emissions every 10 years.

How will we be climate positive in the administration by 2025?

Our emissions from management (scope 1 and 2) are mainly related to energy consumption in our properties.

Actions to get there:

  • Energy efficiency improvements
  • Solar cells and geo-energy plants where possible and cost-effective
  • Fossil-free district heating
  • Climate-friendly refrigerants
  • Electric cars in the service
  • Communication and cooperation with tenants and partners
  • Climate benefit by extracting CO2 from the atmosphere
  • Any climate compensation according to Gold standard

How will we become climate positive in the entire value chain by 2035?

Our emissions from the entire value chain (scope 1-3) are mainly related to the climate impact from materials for new renovations and premises adaptations.

Actions to get there:

  • Purchase of materials with low climate impact
  • Lower material use via recycling
  • When renovating and rebuilding, special consideration must be given to the climate impact
  • Use climate-neutral and climate-positive materials when available
  • Shared use of premises and sharing economy
  • Digital logging of materials
  • Lessons from the project Klimatsmart lokal
  • Climate benefit by extracting CO2 from the atmosphere
  • Any climate compensation according to Gold standard

Our commitment regarding emission levels

We have signed the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and undertake to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by at least 50% and measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions by 2030. This is in line with a maximum of 1.5 ° global warming.
